Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

March 3, 2010

Take a walk through your insides.

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, and Cancer Care Ontario are kicking off Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month on Thursday with an interactive giant colon exhibit at the Dufferin Mall, on Dufferin St. south of Bloor St. A lecture will take place 1:30 p.m.

Visitors can venture inside the 12-metre-long colon-shaped exhibit for a interactive look at the colon and the disease.

"It has a multimedia display and inside there are screens showing different explanations of the disease," a spokesperson said. "Ontario has one of the highest rates of colorectal cancer in the world and anyone over 50 should learn more about screening for the disease. A lot of people don't realize what the symptoms are and should get checked regularly."

Home testing kits will be available that can be forwarded to family doctors for diagnosis.
