December 16, 2009

STAFF REPORTER

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Toronto-based Superior Sausage and Meat Products Ltd. are warning Ontarians not to eat some ham sausages because of possible listeria contamination.

Davendra Sharma, a food safety specialist at the agency, said a particular batch of ham sausage at Superior Sausage tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

The company initiated a voluntary recall of "Village Superior Sausage" and "Kielbassa Szynkowa" (ham sausage) sold between Dec 1. and Dec. 5 at its Dundas St. location and between Dec 1. and Dec. 8. at Euromax Foods in Milton.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

Staff at Superior Sausage and Euromax declined to comment Tuesday night.
