A batch of bubble gum distributed for sale in Canada is being recalled after tests revealed it contained elevated levels of lead.

No illnesses have been reported from consumers consuming Toxic Waste Short Circuits gum, which is imported from Pakistan, according to a Canadian Food Inspection Agency release.

Consuming high amounts of lead can cause health problems, particularly for infants, small children and pregnant women, the release states. The FDA tolerance of lead is 0.1 parts per million, but the product has 0.189 ppm.

The gum, distributed by Indianapolis-based Candy Dynamics issued a voluntary recall of the product on March 26.

The product affected was distributed between Jan. 4 and March 18 of this year.

It is from lot No. 15070SC12, is 90 grams in size, and has the UPC code: 0 89894 31001 3.

The bubble gum was distributed in Canada, the U.S. and Switzerland.

Anyone in possession of the gum should contact Eileen O’Neal at 317-228-5012.

Candy Dynamics is also sending recall notices to its customers as the CFIA continues its investigation.
