OTTAWA – The swine flu epidemic is likely reaching its peak across the country, Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq said today.
"It is important to keep in mind millions of Canadians could still be infected on the other side of the peak," Aglukkaq told a news conference, reminding Canadians they should still get the H1N1 flu shot.
Chief Public Health Officer Dr. David Butler-Jones said it is impossible to tell whether an epidemic has peaked until it is clearly over, and noted that while there is only sporadic H1N1 activity in Alberta, the virus remains widespread in Saskatchewan and British Columbia.
"Coming down the mountain can be just as treacherous as climbing up it," Butler-Jones said.
