Supply and demand of vaccine problematic during H1N1 pandemic: report

June 2, 2010 THE CANADIAN PRESS

A new Ontario report says there was never a good alignment between supply and demand of vaccine during the H1N1 pandemic.

The report says the province fared pretty well during the pandemic, but could have done better.

The report is an assessment of how Ontario fared during the pandemic by the province's chief medical officer of health, Dr. Arlene King.

King's report complains that the province had little warning from the federal government about when vaccine would be available and in what supply.

And long lineups at the beginning of the vaccination program overwhelmed the system's ability to deliver the vaccine.

But King says Ontario's rates of hospitalizations and deaths were low in comparison to those of other provinces.
